Bhaskar Choudhury sits down with Not Today’s director, Aditya Kripalani in a Q&A that digs deep into the film’s themes of grief, loneliness and introspection in the face of human suffering. Hear about the director’s own dealings with and thoughts on these themes as well.
Not Today synopsis:
Aliah Rupawala, is a 24 year old Bohri Muslim girl from a very traditional family. She secretly becomes a Suicide Prevention Counsellor and on her first day she encounters a 52 year old man about to jump from the terrace of a high-rise. This was screened at ARC Stockton Arts Centre on the 26th of February 2022.
Aditya Kripalani is a writer, producer and director, known for creating films that confront “taboo” subjects and undressing them to core, relatable topics. Tikli and Laxmi Bomb (winner of UKAFF’s Gender Award, 2018), for example, involves two sex workers kick the male pimp aside and establish a system run by women for women’s benefit. Aditya Kripalani’s films are both revolutionary and charming in their own way.
