HAQ (Right), directed by Suparn S Varma (The Family Man, Rana Naidu), brings to the big screen a powerful story of one woman’s courage to challenge injustice and reclaim her rights. Starring Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi, the film releases in cinemas on 7 November 2025.
Inspired by real events and the landmark Supreme Court judgement of Mohd. Ahmed Khan vs. Shah Bano Begum, HAQ is a fictionalized and dramatized version of the story from the book ‘Bano: Bharat Ki Beti’ written by Jigna Vora.
At its heart, HAQ follows Shazia Bano (Yami Gautam), who takes her husband Abbas (Emraan Hashmi) to court after he abandons her and their children, a courageous act that ignites a nationwide debate over faith, women’s rights, and justice. Through her fight, HAQ captures the universal struggle of women demanding equality and dignity within systems that often silence them.
The film features a stellar supporting cast including Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, Sheeba Chadha, and Aseem Hattangady.
Produced by Vineet Jain, and Vishal Gurnani, Juhi Parekh Mehta, and Harman Baweja, HAQ is written by Reshu Nath and co-produced by Amrita Pandey, Suparn S Varma, Rowena Baweja, and Sandeep Singh. Vicky Jain serves as Supervising Producer for Insomnia Films.
Director Suparn S Varma, known for his sharp storytelling and impactful social commentary, brings to life a compelling cinematic experience that balances emotion, faith, and the quest for justice.
With its timely theme and powerful performances, HAQ promises to spark meaningful conversations across audiences worldwide, reaffirming the belief that standing up for one’s rights is not only personal, but deeply universal.
Produced by Junglee Pictures, in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, HAQ releases in theatres on 7th November 2025 by Bakrania Media.
